not looking to start an argument on the mistakes of the church but i want to know if the vatican and whatever pope had enough intellegence to except to findings of Galileo (i hope thats spelled right). and have there been any other claims made by scientists that the vatican or churchs and religions in general opposed then changed it views due to the tremendous evidence

(ie, the proof of atoms, gravity, black holes, whatever) all i know is how they kept down galileo cuase he proved the earth was not center, bla bla bla, now its your turn to talk

Yes, the Church admitted in 1992 that it erred in regard to Galileo. See the website for an article about this from the Los Angeles Times

Pope John Paul II apologized several years before his death for the mistakes given towards Galileo.

The apology was made at the Vatican to the public during an address to the world.
