for taking professional looking pictures without being a professional? and the cheaper the better! I want great focus and color in my pictures and the camera I have now does not work that fantastically. I would also like to take clear night pictures, without it looking fake. Any suggestions?

There's so much selection out there nowaday's, it definitely can get confusing picking the right camera. I've used a number of sites for my research, but I particularly like the reviews at "Steves Digicams". In you case, I'm particular mindfull of their review of the FinePix S5200. Seems to fit the bill if you don't mind a camera that is the size of an SLR (it even looks professional).

I got my Nikon per their recommendations and found that they were spot on.

First of all. You get what you pay for. And if one can take professional pictures without being a professional. There won't be any professional photographer anymore.

Anyways, what is your budget? Different price range have different offer. If you are looking for a budget compact point and shoot, consider Fuji F20 or F30. They are pretty good handling night pictures. Another choice is Canon SD 600. Its a good all around point and shoot camera and you won't be disappointed with the color.

For Digital SLR. The least expensive will be the Nikon D40 or Canon EOS 350D aka Rebel XT. Both are entry level DSLR but be ready to spend a little more with lenses. The lens comes with these camera is not very good. And lens is what gives you good picture quality, NOT mega pixel.

Also consider what other suggested here under your question. Try to avoid brands like Kodak, Casio, Sony.

Have fun shopping.
