Our kitten ate a bunch of veg. oil, and I believe that's our culprit. Mon. pm, he didn't eat much, but I noticed a hole in his food bag, and assumed he had already helped himself and wasn't hungry. Tues am, he didn't eat well or at all, and I went to the internet. One site said that if ate canned food or baby chicken food, I could wait on seeing a vet. He ate some. Tues.pm, he ate a bit of his regular food. Wed. am, he still wasn't eatting well, so I made an appointment with the vet. He was becoming lethargic. He was seen in the afternoon, and the vet didn't think anything was wrong with him, but kept him overnight and gave him a laxative. This morning, he wasn't doing any better, so the vet did a blood analysis and his levels were not good at all. He has an inflamed pancreas and renal kidney failure. He was given a 5-10% of survival. The vet put him on antibiotics and iv fluid therapy. He seemed much better and is in guarded condition. Thoughts?

Better news today! We're takinghim home tomorrow. His levels are getting better, and he's not acting like he should with his levels, so the vets are hopeful. We may have to iv him ourselves; we don't know yet.

You don't say how old your kitten is. If he weighs less than 3 or 4 lbs, he's like a new born baby and I'm sorry, but he may well not be able to fight his way back. Kitten's, cat's and humans cannot live without a pancreatitis. The pancreatitis preforms MANY functions, all necessary for survival. In humans, pancreatitis is usually (not always) cause by abusing alcohol. In animals it usually occurs because of a fatty diet, or them eating food with a lot of fat. There is no miracle cure for pancreatits, it needs to heal on its own, fluids, min. food and antibiotic. Also pancreatitis can be very painful.
Kidney failure is the disease that kills most cats after accidents. For some reason that I'm unaware of, cats can be given sub-Q or IV fluids daily, every other day or every third day and it "kind" of works like dialysis in humans. For some reason the extra fluids seem to flush out the kidneys, lowering the creatine that is building in the kidney. The kidneys main function is to clean the blood of impurities and when it isn't able to do that, it fails. I didn't mean to write so much, but if he survives, be sure you understand what he can eat. He will be more prone to problems.
Good luck and I hope the little guy makes it..

One of my childhood cats died of renal kidney failure. It's pretty brutal, they didn't give mine any chance at all for survival. We said goodbye and put him to sleep. I don't know if yours will have better or worse odds being a kitten. All I can tell you is pray hard, hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. :-(

I would personally have the kitten put to sleep for humane reasons, because those organs are permanetly damage and Vets don't have the tools to do transplants. The little guy is suffering.

I couldn't just sit around and do nothing like my doctors suggested.

They didn't want me to do anything or to take herbs or herbal remedies, but I had to try something - they just wanted me to do dialysis!

This program allowed me to take control of my health. I went from Stage 4 to Stage 3 kidney disease.

It was easy to do and my BUN, creatinine and anemia are all in better ranges.
