The consonant "x" is pronounced with your tongue placed in the bottom of your mouth, behind your teeth. The consonant "j" is rather different than the English "j." It is pronounced with both the teeth of both the upper and bottom part of the mouth and the tongue behind it.
Say both "xin" and "jiang" with a flat tone, as if you are singing them with the same note (but it doesn't necessary have to be exactly like singing).

“x” in Chinese reads as soft "s"... In English "sin" "s" is hard but it must be soft "j" in Chinese reads as soft "t", it's not "dj" at all... and "Beijing" is actually "Bay-tin", not "Bay-gin" "iang" reads as English "young"... so "jiang" will be "t-young" (remember Soft T), "liang" will be "l-young" and "xiang" will be "s-young" (again, Soft S)

The "Xi" is difficult to express through typing but, here goes...
"Xi" would be like a cross between "she" and "see", so "Xin" would be like "sheen" and "seen" fused together. "Jiang" is all one syllable and rhymes with "long".
