I watched the movie tonight for the 6th time, i never stop asking myself this question: Is there someone can forgive that much, it's a high treason, also she lied to him, he found it out by himself? Can this really happen or not?

First of all- of course "happy" people cheat; in this case she was really bored with her life. If you pay close attention, her life was annoyingly perfect, so pink, even the fence of their house was white! All she ever did was to take care of a lavish house, her son, and see to it that her husband is happy...I guess she only delluded herself into thinking that this is the ideal life for her. Until, this tall dark and handsome youger dude comes into the picture- she just let herself get into this affair. I don't buy it for one second that she was "forced" into it. Now, as far as her husband goes, and I think that Gere did a wonderful job at showing this, he was totally into her- he was so in love with his wife, that he was willing to forgive, and forget everything. It is almost as of he blamed himself for her unhappiness...otherwise he wouldn't be so angered by her lover. So much that he killed him in a frenzy of rage. I do not justify this guy's action, but I share your view that she did threw it all away when she slept with that french dude, and above all, their son is the one that pays the price- he has a broken home.
I do believe that when you are truely in love, just as much as her husband, you will do ANYTHING to keep that person by your side, sometimes it would be by any means necessary and not legal or moral means, and this movie is a proof to this.

Some people are very forgiving. When my ex boyfriend cheated on me - We attempted to make it work - and Yes to this day I can say that I honestly forgave him. The relationship didn't work out because I felt that he cheated because something was missing in the relationship. He explained to me his reasons for cheating and we both decided that the problem was too great for us to deal with. Forgiveness is a hard thing to give because we never think in that moment that one day we may need to be forgiven.

Havent watched the movie,but as people get older it surprising what they will forgive! but NEVER forget! we all do things we ashamed off and are sorry,its not easy to forgive but it is devine.
