A stray dog is any dog that is not on its property and is roaming unattended. Anything from a chihuahua to a great Pyrenees can be a stray dog.
All dogs can be dangerous: they bite and are more likely to attack when they are strays because they are frightened. They are hunters, which makes them dangerous to other animals, whether wild, domestic or farm. They also can spread diseases to people and other animals.

They aren't always dangerous, but there is always a question as to the health of the animal so having a stray animal (that would be any animal that is not currently on lead and being restrained by another human) around your pets could be dangerous for the health of your pet or you should the stray have rabies or some other debilitating disease.
Again, there's no 'picture' of a stray. A stray animal is any animal (cow, chicken, horse, dog, etc.) that is not currently being controled by it's owner.
If your dog got outside your gate and wandered down the block, it would be considered stray as well.

a stray dog is any dog walking around w/o a human in control, whether physically or be verbal cues. if you see a dog wandering the streets w/o an owner near, guess whatis is a stray dog. esp this time of year strays can be cold and hungry/starving. a starving dog will do crazy things for food, not to mention if might have been abused. They can also have rabies. a stray can be a chihuahua loose, or a mastiff, a bulldog, or a palmoranian

A stray dog is just a dog that is wandering without an owner. Some stray dogs can have diseases, but many are in fact simply lost pets. If you find a stray, you can take them to your local animal shelter.

I usually see them standing at the freeway exit with a sign "help, stray dog in need of food, shelter, and money, I am homeless"....
Seriously, Most dogs you see on the street will not even come near you.. And other's are very friendly. I have never been attacked by helping a homeless or stray dog..

A stray dog is a dog of any breed or mix breed that is not identifiable by you. Could be a dog that belongs down the street that you have never seen or a homeless dog that someone dropped off in your neighborhood. The reason you should be so careful is because you never know if a "strange/stray" dog may have rabies or be aggressive.

A stray dog is a dog who's not in his own territory (yard) and does not have an owner tagging along at the end of his leash. They usually are afraid and need to be handeled by a professional.

This is a ridiculous question. Of course you know what a stray dog looks like. And they're not necessarily dangerous. They're usually just lost.
