I have a small cyst on my back. Doc. said it's small but as a precaution to have it surgically removed. She would be VERY surprised if it was cancerous (they're usually not). I'm scheduled to remove it next week.

The cyst has decreased in size and is barely noticeable but I can still feel something hard on the skin. Should I even bother having it removed? The only reason I would was to rule out cancer and if it's decreasing I'm guessing cancer wouldn't get smaller?

What do you guys think.

I wouldn't risk anything like that. Just because it's getting smaller doesn't mean it couldn't enlarge again. Get it removed.

If it is a true cyst it is not cancer. Physicians tend to remove everything brought to our attention for a variety of lesions. We are never 100% certain. Excising the growth relieves us of any legal concern. It makes physicians a lot of money. It sounds as if you would be safe in postponing the surgical procedure. Your physician will be able to examine it the next time you are in the office for another reason. If it increases in size or otherwise changes you can always be seen simply to have the physician re-examine the cyst.

I'm a cancer survivor (7 months in remission) and I have a ganglion cyst on my wrist that I haven't had removed. If your doctor isn't concerned and it doesn't bother you, there's no reason to have it removed, really.

And you're right, cancerous tumors do not shrink. Cancerous tumors are created when normal cells don't die and start mutating. They do not just stop and shrink without treatment.

i had a similar situation about four years ago... i would suggest getting it removed... my cysts also decreased in size but to be extra cautious, i had them removed. ive since then that they were benign and im glad theyre out... the cysts were on the side of my neck behind one of my ears, the scarring is minimal. i can barely see them now and im so glad that i dont have to worry anymore...

I'd have it removed because a small chance is still a chance. It's already booked in and it's only going to cause you discomfort for a day. At least then there's NO chance...

yes u`re right usually the malignant neoplasms do not decrease in size but u`d better take a biopsy from this cyst to be acertain that it`s not malignant,to detect it`s type and whether it is likely to turn malignant r not
