They don't seem to do much for me, but that's probably partly due to the fact that i usually start panicking and feel as though I might drown when I use them.

Corticosteroid nasal sprays are absolutely wonderful and they are not associated with any significant side effect other than the possibility of nasal irritation which is true for any nasal spray. Nasal corticosteroid reduce swelling in the nose, 'dry up' a 'runny nose', and most but not all future nasal symptoms. Nasal antihistamines are also available and this will dry up a runny nose as well. NasalCrom works by a different mechanism but is not utilized very often. Nasal decongestants are the one that people say you can become addicted to and although you become 'dependent' upon them you are not addicted. What happens is that for a few days the decongestant spray works well but then the spray has a rebound effect. This means that the decongestant effect helps for a few hours but then the irritation to the lining of the nose due to the spray causes the nose to swell up more (become more congested) than it was to begin with. People start using it twice a day, then three times a day, then four times a day, and before you know it they are using the spray every two hours. At this point the only way to get off of the spray is to take oral corticosteroids such as prednisone. Nasal decongestans were once prescription drugs and they are simply not safe for over the counter use. Ironically all of the other nasal sprays available have no problems associated with their use and would be ideal for over the counter status although they are available by prescription only. Go figure. I wish you the very best in health.

They work sometimes.

Probably because if you sniff them enough, you can get high.
