He got it on Monday, only his left eye is still a little red and the goo is all gone. We don't have insurance so we weren't able to take him to a Dr.
So, can he go back tommorrow? He is 6 yrs old.
Thanks so much for your feedback.

24 hours after you taken antibiotics and all the symptoms are gone.

If it is indeed bacterial pinkeye it does not resolve without antibiotics even if the goo is gone he is contagious. Some other conditions of conjunctivitis look like a bacterial pinkeye and he might be ok to return when symptoms are gone.
Is there a public health clinic near you? They see people for free and any eye condition should be seen by a physician or nurse practitioner. The last thing anyone would want is to loose the use of one or both eyes because of money.

As long as the goo is gone, and there's no fever, he is probably good to go. I wouldn't be surprised if it came back, or worse, reappeared as a sinus infection though. Could you find an urgent care clinic that would bill you for the visit and give you samples of an antibiotic? Even if they don't have samples, generic antibiotics are fairly cheap (i just got a script for the generic on Keflex for $7), especially at wal-mart & target now. We don't have insurance either, so I know what it's like.

You didn't take him to the doctor? WHY the hell not and no insurance is NO excuse! Are you not aware if left untreated your son could be blinded? I suggest that you find a way to afford to take your son to the doctor and then ask the doctor when he can return. I've never heard of a child returning to school for at least a week with pink eye but that was AFTER a recheck at the doctor's office.

If he's not on an antibiotic for it he shouldnt return to school until it is completely better.

With an antibiotic he wouldnt be contagious anymore after about 48 hours, but with his own body fighting it, you'll want to wait a little longer as it takes the body longer to break the cycle of the bacteria so it cant spread.

It is actually 48 hours after antibiotics, If you didn't get him medicine wait till it is completely gone. This is very contagious and If he has rubbed his eye alot then played with things there is a good chance he will get it back. Just watch it because if he does keep getting it he could get an infection in his eye which could cause problems w/ his vision.

When the white of his eye is no longer red, no drainage or crusting and he has to at least have antibiotics in his system for 24 hrs, but remember no redness, crusting or drainage, because if he does it can still be transmitted to others.

Hope this is helpful!!

You know since he hasn't had antibiotics then your best bet is to wait another day.I mean it's friday tomorrow and then u have the whole weekend. It is better to be safe then sorry. If he gives it to someone they can always give it back to him.It is a very easy thing to get back.Good luck
