OK - if I was to tell you that there is a nuke heading towards your city - would you say "oh - your so negative" or would you act on that information?

They are not all that way. Billy Sunday was real fire and brimstone preacher, but I don't think Billy Graham has been so much like that. God says that He is going to destroy this world, and cast it into the lake of fire. If our God is a little negative we can expect some of our evangelists to be that way to.

2 Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up.

Which evangelists are your referring to? Don't tar us all with the same brush, please! Most of us are positive, outgoing, happy and are out there in our communities doing practical things to help people. The fire and brimstone brigade are becoming a thing of the past (they flourished during Edwardian and Victorian times and were to be found in Protestant pulpits). I've never yet met an Evangelical preacher who failed to talk about the love of God and saving grace.

Take another look, friend; dump your prejudice and open up your mind. Have you even met an evangelical Christian and got to know one? If not, may I recommend you get down to your nearest Baptist church next Sunday morning. They don't have two heads, honestly! And the music is usually brilliant - uplifting and inspirational. Go on, put it to the test and prove me wrong!

No one in the Bible talked more about hell than Jesus.

If you are not in a saved relationship with Jesus, you are going to hell. Period. That is an important message. If the E-boli virus was coming to America and everyone who was not vaccinated would die a horrible death, I would be out telling people about that, too. Would you say that was a negavie view on the world, too?

However, it is not all negative! Jesus came and died on a cross to take the punishment that we deserve. That is not a negative view at all! We can all be restored to God! Jesus has prepared a place for us in heaven! We just have to repent and accept Christ as Lord and Savior.

What does the word salvation mean? You are being "saved" from something right? So of course one would want to know why they need salvation in Jesus Christ- you must not skip over that- That is why people need to hear about sin and hell- or they will not have the complete truth- and they will be confused if they do pray to accept the Lord, many do not even know why they are doing it. That is why the gospel is so powerful and the Holy Spirit convicts hearts everyday....because God works in many.

On the contrary, an evangelist proclaims the evangel, which is the Good News, or Gospel. Their message is only negative if you reject it. The Good News is, yes, there is eternal judgment, but you can receive eternal righteousness, as a gift, and not have to pay eternal consequences for your sins. Jesus died to save men, not to condemn them.

People get things the wrong way round thats all.

The main message of Jesus was not hell and damnation and a massive list of rules to spoil your fun. Jesus was an amazing guy to be around, people went to see him in crowds, more than 5000 at a time. Would you go and listen to a guy who shouted and screamed at you about how horrible you are?? I wouldn't!!

I listen to people shouting on street corners and cringe. They try and make people feel bad about their lives and then try and introduce them to Jesus or God and they run a mile.

Jesus never wanted things to be like that. He thinks that you (I'll use 'you' as an example - saves me typing in 'people' all the time!!) are totally amazing. He wants nothing but the best for you. He doesn't want to spoil your fun, only add to it. He wants you to succeed in everything - your job, your family, your relationships, your finance. You are unique, special, one of a kind and he absolutely loves you to bits.

I can only apologise for those who get things the wrong way round. God wanted you to have a message of love, blessing, peace, joy and happiness. I'm sure that people would respond to a much more positive message. If only we could learn to treat people as Jesus intended them to be treat then the changes would be seen for miles. You were never intended to hear the negatives in a way like that and I'm really sorry.

Have a great weekend xx

Some as intimidation, others to try to wake people up. Neither is worthwhile or productive. they are also focusing on the end times, but typically take that out of context too. Keep looking/ searching.

that`s what they`re brainwashed into believing from when they are small so they grow up not questioning and take it all for fact .too me, i don`t think the message the Bible tries to give is to make people live a certain way because of fear .good deeds and actions should come from the heart not from fear and should be done without expecting any reward not even brownie points to buy your way into heaven.

Fear is their bread and butter.
Tell the believers that God will not save them unless they do what the Evangelist says God wants.
The money just rolls in.

Not all evangelists are like this. Each religion or denomination evangelises differently. I know in the Catholic church people evangelise by being witnesses of Jesus. So they try and live like Jesus did and by doing this and acting like this, people can see God through them. Evangelising is supposed to be telling people about God not how they are going to burn in hell or whatever they say.
