Vet, vet, vet, vet, vet, and it doesn't matter what the wound looks like or if the puppy seems okay. An injury of that nature can be fatal very quickly. Amazingly quickly. And that means fatal as in dead, not bummer he might lose the rest of his leg. Don't even think of trying to handle this one yourself unless you accept the fact that the puppy could suddenly die on you.

Again, this isn't a case where you can hang out and decide to bring the pup in if he seems sick later. By then he may be irreversibly near death. Vet, vet, vet, vet, vet.

He really needs to see a vet, make sure the wound is cleaned well, w/ an anticeotic. bandage the wound so it doesn't get infected. He could probably use an antibiotic, but if you don't want to take him to the vet don't just guess @ what antibiotic to use if you know where to get some that are safe for the dog. be careful, a hurt animal can be scared and dangerous.

You might clean the wound with hydrogen peroxide, you can buy it real cheap at the drugstore or walmart.
You could just call the vet and ask them what to do, but they would probably want you to come in.
Just keep it clean and watch for infection. The peroxide should keep it clean. I don't think I would bandage it. The dog will lick it and that seems to help them heal.
I am not a vet and this might not work, but it is what I would do.

The dog really needs a vet, NOW.

If you are unable to do afford veterinary care, turn the dog over to a rescue for proper care.

you need to take the dog to a vet. without adequate veterinary care, the dog can easily die from infection/disease....find a farm vet and tell him you found the dog..he will probably lower the cost if its a large and small animal farm vet

If it is not visibly infected, use massive amts of antibiotic cream, good nutrition, lots of love, keep it clean, you can give him/her a baby aspirin,. not Tylenol. Keep it wrapped. That poor baby, I wonder what happened? It is lucky you found it. But if you see any sign on infection, to the vet it needs to go, it probably needs shots to stay as healthy as it can be anyway. Good luck to you and your new friend!! Merry Christmas!

You can't and you shouldn't try. This dog is at risk for a serious infection you MUST get him to a vet ASAP.

The dog should be on antibiotics or he could get an infection. You don't want him to loose his leg. Take him to the Vet..... Please.
