Suprisingly not as much as I thought. I have been a vicitim of abuse by a priest (who was my uncle) and yes my faith was affected quite significantly. However I went to World Youth Day in Canada in 2002 and Pope John Paul II spoke about this topic. He apologised for the few people in the church who do these horrible things and said not to judge the church just by those few people. Another way to put it is this. When the allegations were going around about various National Rugby League teams, people were upset, but they didn't stop watching football just because some people MAY have made a mistake.

My trust in God has come back slowly but i'm back at church and practicing Catholicism to the best of my ability

God Bless

At first, i was disgusted, and then i thought about growing up in the catholic church, which i'm still a faithful member. I never had a priest to treat any of the children, male or female in any sexual way. we had 2 priests, which are still there, and they treated us with dignity, always raising our self esteem--which this world loves to destroy. whenever i thought i couldnt' do something, they would remind me that i am God's child and i can do anything through the power of God. which this has never proven to be false. itrust my priests with my 3 year old son now. their are a lot of bad people, even in church. the other day one of the local baptist church had their preacer arrested for raping little girls!so, it goes without saying that whether it's the catholic church or another domination, evil can be found everywhere--but God will bring them out to face the consequences.

It has not affected me at all because the statistics show that it is across the board with ALL religions. If the Truth were to be told according to the statistics the Baptists have the highest number of offenses recorded.

It hasn't affected my faith, but it really has saddened me. I've worked in the church for years and to hear these stories just feels like a betrayal - this is NOT what a man of the cloth is supposed to do. I guess priests are human too and subject to doing dispicable things. To me, such men are NOT men of God.

Actually it has confirmed my faith. When anyone undertakes to represent the Lord Jesus Christ without the power of the Holy Spirit in their life, the Devil is going to chew them up and spit them out.

dirty cops
teachers who mollest
rabbis who mollest

to say 'well i guess catholics are bad because A small percent out of hundreds possiblely thousands of priests acted bad' is just silly.
