I looked up kvetching on dictionary.com and it said persistent whining or complaining. I am a Christian and I do not want to walk around with a mug that most people translate as a bad word. Help!

Ok here's what I think happened. Whoever you talked to and gave you that definition uses the term bitching to describe whining. I know tons of people who do this. So in their mind, bitching is no more foul a word than whining. However, since you have a sense of decency, you heard that term and red flags went up. I don't think you have anything to worry about though, I don't think "*****" translates as a verb in many other countries.... yet....

Kvetching does not really mean B--ching. It means to whine, complain or otherwise be malcontent with a situation.
Used in english, you can say it is used as other words such as "Quit your whining!" or "Quit your complaining!".
Its kind of like the word Aloha. It can be used in a lot of ways for a lot of meanings, but the jist of it is the same even though the litteral sense of the word is gone.

Kvetching isn't a bad word. The person who defined it for you USED a bad word to define it. But kvetching, in itself, is not a bad word. It's a Jewish and/or Yiddish term. Nobody should take offense to it - because it's not offensive!

Just before He ascended after His resurrection He said He would not leave His children alone. He said He would send another comforter (which is the Holy Spirit previously promised). It's not really a "bad word" I would translate it as kind of a group compalint, in England they use the word "moaning". It's just a fun little term, not obscene.

just dont use it, or go to the person that you exchanged with and explain to them your situation. They may still have the reciept and can return it for a different mug.
