Yes, there is something you can do. Peace Corps is how I got started. Another really good option is Heifer International, which runs community volunteer workshops, community training, etc. across America. Check them out, and see if any of their programs interest you. They have extensive projects around the world, and could help you get started.

Also, have you looked into Habitat for Humanity?

Flipwhip is right--Peace Corps pays your way if you volunteer. But, a commitment to the Peace Corps is generally 24 months plus an 8 to 10 week in-country training. To join the Peace Corps you have to have skills that they are looking for--big in Africa right now are teachers and health workers. (I'm sure there are more skill sets, though.) To quote a Peace Corps Country Director, "Peace Corps is the experience against which you will measure the rest of your life."

I care very deeply related to the subject concerns in the two places, yet on the tip of the day, I even have many very expensive acquaintances in Japan. What occurs over there is commonly particularly very own to me. besides, the severity of events in one place do no longer negate the severity of events someplace else. persons are suffering in Japan and purely because of the fact there are people suffering in Africa too would not make the suffering of people in Japan any much less. i won't manage to talk for all people else, yet I basically have constrained components attainable and good now i could somewhat placed them in direction of helping the placement the place my expensive acquaintances are. consistent with danger you think of that makes me an awful individual, yet i could could disagree with you. all people has a fave or favorite reason, and that's a stable element, because of the fact there are various issues interior the worldwide and no person individual can resolve all of them. ETA: So what precisely are YOU doing to help Africa, considering you seem so adamant that Africa is the only place on earth that does or ought to ever deserve help?

have you looked into any ngo or religious organization. first you need to define exactly it is you want to do. second find out who does it. third figure out how you can be a part of it.
if you know which country (countries) you want to volunteer in there is a good chance their governments will have some resources for you. tried idealist.org? oxfarm? english teaching programs? sustainable development groups? african youth united? world african congress? aids campagins? economic enterprises? international companies? world bank? african communities where you live? foreign embassies?
