the term boyfriend generally implies that a commited relationship exists. there is mutual agreement that you are exclusively seeing each other.. that's essentially by view of the term.
dating and having sex doesn't necessarily mean there is a commitment.. could be you are "friends-with-benefits"
if you ask the teens on here, it would seem that the title of having a "boyfriend" or girlfriend" is more important than the actual quality of the relationship.. seems one date is enough to gain the title..
reading in between the lines, it seems you are seeing a guy and want more of a commitment than he is apparently willing to give you.
but i may be reading this all wrong..

in a relationship you guys! both share a special connection with each other, a different kind of bond...and no just b/c you go on several dates and have sex does not make you a couple there must be a mutual agreement between the both of you in terms of a relationship.

a "boyfriend" is a guy that you like in a different way than any of your other male friends. he is someone who you are willing to share things with that you don't share with anybody else. a 'boyfriend" is someone you are committed to. the things i mentioned, are things that he will feel for you as well. you'd be his "girlfriend".
i get the feeling that he doesn't want to commit, and that's why you're asking. so you can put the label on it? if that's the case, don't do it. if he doesn't want to commit, you need to move on if that's what you are looking for.

when you two are in love (or like each other a lot) and you go on dates, do stuff together and chill together...then you're boyfriend and girlfriend. If you're just having sex and not really getting to know each other...you're...sorta like friends with benefits...(friends that have sex...o.O)

to call a guy ur bf means to show responsible respect towards someone and be willing to share ur heart and feelings with them. it's someone you no would be honest and there for u even when your friends aren't. it's someone you can share ur secrets with. it has nothing to do with sex or just spending the night or making out. its about ur emotions.
