11 years old and me recently moved about 3 months ago to an apartment where he can no longer go outside he had to adjust to being an indoor cat. Just within the week he has stopped eating and so we took him to the vet and she said he has lost muscle mass and that he was dehydrated. So she gave him fluid my cutting a little incision. He came home and we gave him some special food the vet told us to give him and the next day the results turned up negative on his blood test that he did not have anything. Today when I got home I tried to give him tuna and fresh delit meat and he will only eat a little bit if you keep on agitating him. And just to mention he is also having a little bit of a harder time walking and keeping balance. Please Help!!!

I had an older cat that slowly stopped eating. She had been both indoor/outdoor and just an indoor cat. I brought her to the vet and they gave her an appetite stimulant and it helped a little but it was very difficult to administer. She hated it and I eventually had to let her go, because the torture of giving the medicine was too much for her and me and it was only putting off the inevitable.
However I also had a 2 year old cat that stopped eating, started puking and lost weight. The vet suggested it was pancreatitis and we medicated him. After a few weeks of tuna (not recommended as food for cats unless it's an emergency) he bounced back.
Your cat is only 11, mine was 13. I'd check with the vet again and see if there is something they can give the cat to stimulate the appetite until it puts on a little weight. Also, my cats would have nothing to do with the prescription foods, you might have to try the tuna. Best of luck.

If your cat is having a hard time walking/keeping his balance, it may be a neurological problem. I would chalk up his reluctance to eat to your recent move, except for this. If he were my cat, I'd get him an MRI or CT scan of the brain if you can possibly afford it; I know they're costly. Until then, to keep him hydrated and fed, try getting a syringe from your vet and syringing a mix of half canned cat food and half water down his throat. Best of luck to you and Jesse, I appreciate seeing people so concerned about their pets.

It sounds like your cat is suffering from depression. Yes they can get depressed just like us. Keep offering him food and let him walk down the hallway with you when you put the garbage out. Also let him outside with you when you go out you can get cat leashes and harnesses from most dollar stores. try getting him a motorized mouse that he can chase and make sure you have areas in the house where he can climb. My cat is 10 we had the same problem when we moved from a house to an apartment we've been here a year and she is just fine now.

Definitely call the vet tomorrow and tell him what is going on. I guess they gave you canned a/d so get some more and feed him with your finger. That is a high protein, high fat food and will be very good for him. Don't feed him tuna or deli meat - if he is sick that will not agree with him.

It is not possible for your body to put on weight. Especially that much. Any weight you have gained is from something you have done, not necessarily eaten but if you had one big meal at then sat around for a few days that meal would metabolize into fat...etc.

Jesse is probably depressed. My 15 year old cat is going through depression now because we recently lost her brother. I finally did find something that she liked... steak. I hope that helps.

It sounds like he may have some trouble adjusting to his new surroundings in addition to his older age. Take him to the vet as soon as you can!

If its getting hard for him to walk this could be because he is weak from not eating or it could be something more serious. if he was my cat i would take him back to the vet asap.

Back to the vet, ASAP.

You may need hospitalization for Jesse and/or referral to a specialist.
