It's all over the national news. You'd be living underneath a rock if you didn't hear about it until now. I used to like Taco Bell, now I'm staying away from them until they no longer have ecoli in their food.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Taco Bell said on Sunday it had temporarily closed one of its fast-food outlets and was working with New Jersey health authorities seeking the cause of an E. coli outbreak that has sickened nearly a dozen people. Eleven confirmed cases, all in central New Jersey and mostly affecting children, were reported by the Newark Star-Ledger on Sunday. Six people remained hospitalized. In two cases, the infection developed into hemolytic uremic syndrome, or HUS, which can cause permanent kidney damage, the newspaper said. The source has not been determined, but a Taco Bell restaurant in South Plainfield, where nine of the victims ate, was suspected. The restaurant voluntarily closed last week. Taco Bell said in a statement it was "working closely with health authorities as they continue to explore this situation. We have taken every precaution, including temporarily closing the restaurant until the investigation is completed." The strain of E. coli bacteria identified in confirmed cases is E. coli O157:H7, the same strain found in packaged spinach his year that killed three people and sickened more than 200 across the United States. "This is a significant outbreak of a serious disease, and a significant amount of people are ill," Middlesex County Director of Health David Papi told the newspaper. Papi called the scope of the outbreak, which began on November 17, uncommon. The health department could not immediately be reached. Taco Bell is a unit of Yum Brands Inc..
