I took it a few years ago along with Prozac, It seemed to work for a while, I would give at least 2 more weeks before you decide anything.

I've been on it for about 8 years now. Out of the 19 different psych (antidepressants, antipsychotics, mood stabilizers, stimulants, anti-anxiety) meds I have been on over the years, Wellbutrin has been - for me- the best one by far. (When I say best, I mean the most helpful with least side effects.) It started working within days of when I started it...although it can take 4-6 weeks for an antidepressant to reach its full potential. In the very beginning I kind of lost my appetite, but that passed quickly. The biggest problem I ever had with it was hot flashes when we took the dose up to 450 mg...but at my normal 300...I have absolutely no problems with it and I have nothing but good things to say about it.

Different meds work differently for different people...that's what makes finding the right one (or combination of them) so hard. Most people I have spoken to (I co-run a bipolar/bpd support group) who have taken it have had one of two experiences. Either it worked well with very few side effects or it did nothing at all for them.

There is a higher risk of seizures with Wellbutrin than with the other antidepressants and the risk goes up with the amount you take. AT 300 mg the risk is 1 in 1000. This is why anyone with a history of seizures should not take it. Also, it should not be taken if you have ever had a head injury or an eating disorder. Certain other medications or the abrupt ceasation of heavy alcohol use can also reduce the seizure threshhold. (making it more likely.)

Personally, I have had no problems along these lines and have not heard first hand of anyone else having this happen.

I took Wellbutrin for depression and did not like it at all. Unlike paxil which is for depression and anxiety I think Wellbutrin is just supposed to treat depression. Which was bad for me because I had depression and anxiety and I think it made me even more wound up than I was before. I felt like I had just finished drinking a big pot of coffee the whole day long, and found it very difficult to sleep at night. Unlike paxil which the first day or two started to take the edge off of my negative thoughts, Wellbutrin did little to nothing in this regard.

Wellbutrin might be good for you if you have the type of depression where you dont have any energy and/or sleep 16 hours a day or something like that, because in my experience, it will solve your lack of energy problems.

It is actually the same drug as a smoking cessation drug called Zyban which is supposed to help you quit smoking by cutting your impulsive urges down. I took it to help me quit smoking and it didn't help me there either... Frankly I don't know how they prescribe this drug for anything other than something that will ruin your sleep at night.

I took it for a little while but it made me ache all over like I had the flu. I am now on Lexapro. I noticed a difference in three days.

For any depression medication it can take up to 2 weeks for it to take effect. So give it a few more days.
