i have strong exrtracurriculars and maybe a 3.5 GPA (half a's and b's) does the mcat carry more a wait for admittance into med school?

Hate to tell you this but - it depends on the school. Most med schools give strong weight to the MCAT as an initial screening factor, but I've never heard of any that admit or reject a student solely on that basis. Grades are usually very important as well, but they are going to look closely at what courses you got those grades in. Admissions is supposed to be a multifactorial process considering several different aspects. For more details, contact the admissions office of the actual school(s) you wish to apply to, since they may have different points of emphasis.

Incidentally - the best schools also look at your writing ability, which includes spelling and punctuation.
