Why is it that dads give the new boyfriend the third degree when they first meet and moms are always trying to be "Hip"
and "cool" when really they make me want to disappear.

You're actually worried about what your boyfriend thinks of your parents. He should respect them no matter what, if he wants to be with you. Play it neutral, understanding that your parents raised you from day one, and care about you in a way that you cannot know until you have children yourself. If your boyfriend is overwhelmed, make a little joke about it, but don't bring disrespect for your parents in between you and him. Keep your parents sacred, by not lending any ridicule of them to any relationship you are ever in. This keeps the guy in line, and respectful of your parents, and of you.

Dad's give the third degree because nobody is ever good enough for their little girl. Also, if he still cares about you and survives the third degree, you might just have a worthy one ;).

As far as Moms acting cool and hip - hmmmm... even though I am a mom, I and somewhat stumped on that on. Guess I would have to ask my daughter if I do that with her boyfriend - LOL.

Dad's are very protective of their daughters. Let it be. It's just dad showing you he loves and cares for you.

Mom's on the other hand are the 'romantics". Seeing and meeting their daughters dates, make mom's have this big flashback to her dateing days, and she's hopeing that by the dates taking you out, they'll see your mom as cool, and be a bit prouder being with you sence you have the "cool mom". :-)

Because they want something good for you that's why. You're too immature to appreciate them. Seriously, thank God that you have parents that worry for you.

Added: I'm sure you've heard this before but... you'll find out exactly why when you're a mom yourself. :)

They are trying to help you. You should really appreciate them more. Your parents care for you. If you really think it bothers you so much, why don't you ask your parents to not do that?

It's written in the invisible book called "how to ruin your daughters dating carrer" you just smile and let them know before hand if you can that this is NOT how they are and bare with them... in the meantime smile and bare it
