spaying is for females. it means getting their reproductive organs removed so that they won't reproduce. the ovaries, oviducts, uterine horns, and the uterus are removed. spayed cats are at less risk of certain cancers, they're healthier, and live longer.

EDIT: Spayed cats are also calmer.

Spaying means to have your female cat fixed so she will not come into heat and can not get pregnant. The vet performs the surgery and the cat has to be put under anaesthesia while operated on. I don't know the exact details of what is actually done, but I don't presume any actual organs are removed. Females will have stitches on their belly for a while after the operation. For boy cats this is called neutering and the vet sort of 'snips off the testicles' so the male cat can not impregnate a female. This usually calms their territorial behaviour down and 'fixed cats', both male and female tend to live longer and have less health problems.

Spaying is the removal, by a vet, of the female reproductive organs. Unless you can afford to feed and keep healthy all the hundreds of kittens female cats can produce, spaying is a good idea. Male cats are neutered, which is the removal of the testicals. This is all done while the cat is asleep and they do not feel any pain until they wake up, and none of my cats have ever shown any problems afterwards.

How did you end up getting 2 cats and not have a clue about spaying? It means "fixing" the cat so it doesn't have kittens. It's a surgery that removes the females reproductive organs. Please, speak to a veterinarian.

It's a minor surgical procedure that is for female cats. The doc goes in and snips the reproductive organs so that she can't reproduce.

The reproduction organs are removed or rendered useless. Like a historectomy in a woman.
