why do peanuts cost more than peanut butter when there more work involved in crushing the peanuts?

Shipping costs. Plus ugly peanuts can be in peanut butter, but only pretty peanuts are sold as peanuts.

Marketing.......The same as a Cornish game hen which is really a small chicken cost more retail but cost less to process.
