are eye drops bad for eyes in the long run?

you know, that's actually a really good question. I used to use eyedrops frequently to make my eyes clearer, even if I didn't need them. I was thinking that maybe it might cause your eyes to get used to the eyedrops and sort of take away its natural functioning and the eyes will turn red more easily but I don't know for sure. Anyway, I stopped using it because I figured putting in anything into my body that i not natural is not good anyways. So now I only use it when my eyes are really red.
