There's a girl in my school that I'm really starting to like. I've only talked to her once, because I rarely see her (we have 1 class together and we pass each other in the halls right after lunch.)
Problem is, I might have some competition. I never see her around a big group of friends(she's very shy), but she does talk to one guy after class sometimes. They don't seem too close and he's kind of a jerk, but I think he also may like her. How do I get to know her, and possibly win her heart before he does?

Also, I think she might like me. Sometimes I'll catch her glancing at me in class but then she'll quickly look away.

Be friendly to her, smile at her a lot. If you get vibes that she may like you, then start mildly flirting. When you start flirting, you should definitely be able to tell if she may be at all interested. If she is, then I'd ask her for her phone number, so you can get to know her a little better outside of school. If you are old enough to date, then after you guys talk on the phone and if you feel the feelings are mutual, you might ask her to a party or to a movie.
Try to stop being so shy yourself, and learn to take a chance when you like a girl. You'll never know if you don't try.
If she doesn't like you in that way, you haven't lost anything. Just be on the lookout for another girl. There are tons of girls out there.
Good luck!

Can you sit next to her in the 1 class you have together? Can you sit with her at lunch time since you pass each other in the halls right after lunch?
I say go for it! I personally love shy people!!!!
I think you should ask her out to a lunch date on a Saturday or something. She sounds sweet.

Start talking to her more often. And find out allot about her when u have learned allot about her u tell her ur true feelings for her and ask her out. This should happen after about 2 weeks of talking ot her and getting to know her allot.

Dont be afraid to approach her. Ask her if you may call her, this will let you know if she is interested without your feelings getting hurt too much. If she says yes, call her and ask her out. Dont be afraid of "No" it isnt always a bad thing.

talk about anyhting that you two have in common!! maybe you'll feel lame at first, but eventually you'll find that you have plenty of converstaion! also, flirt A LOT, but don't look desperate. don't be too obvious (like saying you're so nice and pretty and funny) but seem interested.

then go talk to her. don't worry about the other guy and her they might be just friends or something. and there's nothing wrong with shy girls. you should'nt judge a book from its cover.

I hate giving out cliches on these sort of situations, because primarily I hate people giving them to me, but be yourself.
If she likes that, then great for the both of you. If she doesn't, "I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not".
