i have purchased a new home and the carpet is grey. my furniture is brown with strands on blues mauves but very little of these colors show thru. will this match?

You can make it match, by using accessories, such as pillows, paintings and rugs...even paint color.

No, it doesn't match.

You can wait a while and you'll stop noticing the incompatibility, but nobody wants to do that.

So, look for patterns in brown and gray in the following form:

1. A throw-blanket for the couch.
2. A throw-rug in front of the couch.
3. A coffee table scarf for in front of the couch.
4. Curtains
5. Wall paper
6. Wall pictures
7. Couch pillows

It won't "match" but do you want it to? The whole idea of furnishing & decorating your home is 'what do I like?' I have found that it really doesn't matter what the "rules" are. If you surround yourself with things that you love, it will fit. Be a rebel. Break any of the old rules you heard about. Make your place feel like home to YOU!!
