Prilosec has numerous, dangerous side-effects. It causes malabsorption of nutrients (e.g. calcium, iron, and vitamin B12) and it causes bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine. It might be wise to find a doctor that will work with you to find the CAUSE of your heart burn, rather than using a drug to mask the symptoms ... especially a drug that is so dangerous to your long-term health.

Best wishes and good luck.

Prilosec is a good drug for heart burn. In fact, Nexium (esomeprazole) is a prodrug which is essentially metabolzied into omeprazole (prilosec) pretty much making them the same drug, but Nexium is 4 times the price of Prilosec. Those of you who take Nexium are getting ripped off. Its all in your head!

I've tried prilosec and it doesn't work very well for me. I use Protonix and prefer it. It depends on how it works for you-- if it works for you, great, and it's cheaper!
