Does anyone know if taking Zoloft for depression and anxiety will void my chances of joining the US Army?

I'm not suicidal or severly depressed, it's a mild depression.

What if I get off of Zoloft before I enlist?

You need to have been taken off of the medication by your doctor for at least one year before you can process for the Army. Even then you will still need to see an Army shrink before you can complete the physical part of the processing.

I think a good move would be to make the difference a little less ridiculous. The fact that a man in his 50s is expected to be in better shape that a woman in here teens is laughable. Cut down on the number of age brackets and make the difference between genders smaller and I think it'd be a little more equitable. I think the major reason the standards are so different is because the Army is trying to increase the number of women in service. Even with the really low standards a number of women, and men, routinely fail the APFT. Of course, if soldiers were more dedicated to passing the APFT, and if the Army did a better job instructing them on HOW to pass the APFT, then maybe we'd be able to raise the standards and have the same, or more, amount of people pass.

I am a Mental Health Specialist in the Army and no, it will not keep you from joining. There are a lot of soldiers on Zoloft, I took it for a while for OCD. It's perfectly fine as long as you are not suicidal or homicidal at the present time.

I have heard they are not accepting people that have used any psychotropic drugs, but you might want to call them.
