EXACTLY!

NO DRAFT!!!!

2006-12-07 10:37:55 · answer #1 · answered by HW 4 · 1 4

First, I think we should get out of Iraq. Secondly though, I believe we should reinstate the draft so that everyones child has an equal chance of being a casualty of that war or any war. As it is, wealthy people can afford to support war because their kids aren't going to go, they have no need to go; they can pay for their own education, etc. Poor people also really don't have to go in order to get their education, they can get grants to cover the whole cost. This does not mean that alot of poor people don't join because they think they need to do this to fund their education, they don't understand that for them education is free anyway. It is middle class people who cannot afford college for their kids, and it is mostly these people that are fighting our wars. The parents make too much money to get aid, but too little to pay the ridiculous costs of college. For this reason, I believe we should have a draft, the wealthy would think more when they voted to support a war.

There is NO discussion of conscription for Iraq by anybody in authority. Panic seems to be spreading among uninformed teenagers on the web, but is based on nothing happening in Washington. I do wish this would go away.
The White House don't want a draft.
The military certainly don't want a draft. They're structured now as a professional force, and switching back to a conscripted force would undo everything they've done in the past thirty years. Also, if they started tomorrow, it would take longer to switch back than we're likely to be in Iraq.
Only Charlie Rangell in Congress--that's right, one single congressman--has suggested this might eventually be a good idea, on political grounds, not as an answer to manpower in Iraq.
And we aren't really fighting a war in Iraq, except in a tenuous way as a part of the War on Terror. We're really in "peacekeeping" mode among a bunch of factions fighting each other. Of course, our troops make convenient targets, and having them there makes it easier for those on the other side of our War on Terror to get at them. But it's best to separate the two to make some sense out of things.

Not for Iraq, but we need our Military beefed up. One day China will be looking for land with magnetic North Shifting towards them.Wars are fought over natural resources for their population. I like to see a draft and basic training for all able bodied 16 years olds. Before they can drive they could do basic training. If the Military needed them they would have that done at least.

My 22 year old son just returned from his second tour of duty in Iraq. I think you need to see that, in addition to the Iraqis, who do not all hate us, he fought to keep America in the secure place that it is militarily and for our freedom. I told him when he joined the Army a bit over 4 years ago that he would be defending Americans, many of whom he might not think are worth defending. He didn't understand at first, but now that he's back home he tells me how glad he was to go over there twice to free the Iraqi people from Hussein, but he sees my point that there are a lot of people over here that just aren't worth defending. Vietnam veterans found the same thing. People who are willing to protect the freedom we luxuriate in won't need to be drafted. They'll volunteer because they have a maturity that others will never reach. God Bless you.

We don't need a draft. Only a third of our troops have served in Iraq. Unfortunately, many of them have served 2 or 3 tours.

Our government went into their country and decided to get involved - and in so doing started a civil war (even though we did get rid of a tyrannical dictator so thats one plus) - so we have to stick it out until we actually help solve the problem. And as long as our country is committed to this war, the fighting should not be left to the kids who are poor or minorities who make up the bulk of the people who sign themselves up. So yes, I think that the draft is necessary. We simply don't have enough troops to improve the situation without the draft. Also, it wasn't until the draft was started for the Vietnam war that the country really got some guts and started standing up and protesting the tactics and lies perpetuated by the government - so that's another reason to think that the draft might be a good thing in the long run.

Have you heard any reports of soldiers in or coming back from Iraq that say they are not glad they are over in Iraq? Why Because they know more than we that if they all come home the terrirest will follow. Many are reenlisting. Including my sons friends I think if you want the military to come home please replace them so thay can

I think we should just let them have their civil war and after they're done killing eachother and want to set up a government we should go back and help them with that if they need it.
