We do, in my family.
My husband is a veteran of WWII (Pacific), and I am filled with pride at his service to our country.
I feel sorry for little Allegra (above), who apparently is young, ignorant, and ungrateful.

Many people do care about Pearl Harbor day; survivors, historians, military tacticians.
For example had politicians and journalists learned from Pearl Harbor they might have been aware of how difficult it is to collect, decipher, and process military intellegence. Much of the controversy over military intellegence and the present Iraq War might be resolved if people kept that in mind.
Also, Pearl Harbor and the events leading up to it remind us that the United States can no longer live as an isolationistic nation. Wars and events on the other side of the world can and do effect us. Wars in the Middle East can cripple our economy and those of other nations.
Additionally, Pearl Harbor should teach us that it is a very difficult decision for any U.S. President to go to war. Franklin Roosevelt did everything short of war to preserve peace, he tried diplomacy and embargoes to influence those leaders who wanted war.
Furthermore, it should teach us that if World Organizations like the League of Nations or the United Nations do not act decisively and forcefully malevolent leaders can provoke or start wars.

I do, but you would have to be interested in history and see the similarities between Iraq and Pearl Harbor in order to give a crap about the thousands of men and women who died for your freedom so you could live and show non support of the military on forums like this one.
I've actually been to Pearl Harbor and the monument on the island of Oahu in Hawaii. It's a very solemn and sad thing to see. Perhaps you will give a crap if you get drafted.

Ha ha. Not me.
Today is probably also the anniversary of some unnamed, forgotten natural disaster in Asia that claimed the lives of millions - far more than the number that died at Pearl Harbor. Does anyone else give a crap about that?
P.S. Apparently my point was lost on all of you ... that Americans are so self-righteous they b*tch about tragedies that are not slightly as bad as those dealt with in other countries. And who, exactly, got the worst out of the Pearl Harbor bombing? It wasn't America, my friends. It was the radioactivity-poisoned Japan.
And thank you, tommybear45.
P.S.S. I don't appreciate being called "little," "ignorant," or "ungrateful," especially when it is most ignorant to eat up without question the war rhetoric of bravery and honor and the self-absorbed American pride that you're fed by the military, the government, and the media. Both of my grandfathers were military men; one served in the Philippines in WWII. No one wants to admit it, but, unfortunately, people don't join the military out of "pride" and "a desire to sacrifice themselves for their country." They join because they're broke and need someone to help pay for college, or because they want to carry on the legacy of a military family. Get a clue.

My 21 year old son came home and told me that 3 big institutions had their flags at 1/2 mast but several small businesses did not, and there were a few little flags out. I'm proud of him for remembering and knowing, especially since we're not rabid patriots, just what I like to think of as average good citizens, grateful for the gifts won for us by the blood of our countrymen.

Yes but when we don't learn from the mistakes of the past we are bound to repeat them. 911 is our generation's Pearl Harbor and we are a sleeping giant just like last time only we were awakened breifly but only to roll over and are in the process of going back to sleep.

Sure, it was a pivotal point in our history that changed our, as a county's, way of thinking and interacting with the world. As a result it changed our economy, our status as a power, greatly advanced technology, and helped unite the country. Then there is the human aspect as well.
