It is hard for the same reason you can find 3,000,000 pages about Jennifer Anniston on the web, but none about your grandfather - supply and demand.
All of the data on the web comes from people who type it in. No one is interested in your family but you and some of your relatives. We are even there - no one is interested in my family either, but me and some of my relatives. Your family (and mine) are not that popular, so there isn't much data.
There are sites with data, but it takes time. I have a web page designed to be used in a class on Internet Genealogy I'm giving in the library. If you work through the exercises it should take 1 - 2 hours. If you'd like to give it a try, please do so. It is for beginners who live in the USA. It and all the sites it references are free, save for one link to Ancestry. Don't sign up for anything on Ancestry.

You'll need your grandparents' names, and maybe your great-grandparents. If you try it, I'd appreciate some feedback.

Sure there may be a site.....somewhere. But chances are it will take you a long while to link up to one of the genealogies posted in cyberspace.
I'll tell you where i got started...My mothers and grandmothers papers, thankfully for me they were packrats. You can find clues in all sorts of papers from the obvious- like birth/death/marriage certificates, but you can also glean information from letters, birthday/christmas cards, records of employment, (which will give last addresses) calendars, slips of paper kept for no reason (except gr. grandma's death date written on it), newspapers, etc.
It's all clues to a puzzle that you need to fit together as much information as possible from memorabilia and family members....and THEN when you have your basic who/when facts sorted out first, THEN you have a better chance of finding out more information online.
Unless you pay, no one's going to do the work of figuring it out for you....unless, that is, you have relatives who have done the research already and may be looking ties to You.
Don't give up hope though. Searching online is tough, but WOW at the joy when you make a breakthrough!!
Good luck.

Start by asking ur parents the names of ur grandparents and even their grandparents. Google them and find it that way. I tracked my family back to 1728 that way
