I have a seven year old dachshund that still isn't house trained. He has been good about it off and on but now he is really bad about it. If he goes potty outside, we praise him and give him a treat, but he still craps in the house at least 5 times a week. Any good house training routines.

Treat him like he's a puppy that you are just beginng to train-and use the crate training method. Crates rule.

Get back to basics like when he was a puppy. Get a crate not much bigger than the dog. You want the dog to be able to turn around in it but not be able to go to one end to do it's business and the other to sleep. Keep the dog in the crate when you are sleeping, not home or unable to watch the dog. Take the dog out to do her business as soon as you take it out of the crate, 15 minutes after eating and after playing. If you are watching the dog and see her start to circle and sniff like she has to go take her outside. If she has an accident and you do not witness it unfortunately there is nothing you can do about it. Do not yell at your dog, do not hit her, do not stick her nose in her mistakes. Make corrections firm but not yelling. Good luck.

i have a 6mth old dach that is totally trained. he hasn't pooped or peed in the house in months. we crated him as soon as we got him. dogs don't poop/pee where they sleep. that is too old for a dog not to be house trained. what does his vet say? it might be a personality thing. how did you try to train him? ours goes to the door each time he has to go out, or we take him out first thing in the morning, or after he wakes up from a nap. we live in an apartment, so he really needs to be trained.
buy a crate that is slightly bigger than he is, and one that he can safely lay down in, but not run around in. when you go out to work, etc, put him in it. he might whine or cry, but he'll stop. as soon as you come home, go immediatly out the door with him. we give ours a treat only if he poops, but we used to give him one every time he went out, then only if he did something, and finally if he pooped. he caught onto the treat thing and tried to go to the door every few minutes just to get a treat. they are very smart, and yours should catch on quick. just make sure to watch his behavior in the house. we have baby gates to keep him out of the bedrooms. unfortunatly, you will have to start re-training him like a puppy. whenever you get another dog/puppy, make sure to start him/her early so you don't have this problem.
a lot of people have this problem with dachs, so you're not alone.

get the adult dog pads that have a scent in them that attracts dogs to them and put down in your house where the dogs goes.
they are cheap at walmart and dont smell, only the dogs can smell them. I moved them closer to the door and eventually
outside over a 2 week time and it worked! good luck
