Let them know who's boss. Don't just threaten them with a "talk". I see nothing wrong with spanking. It's the kids growing up these days who didn't get them that are out of control.

Spanking is only the parents' way of showing who is in control and also letting out their frustrations and anger. Come on now. I can understand a swat on the hand when they are reaching for something dangerous, but not a spanking to "show who's boss." Parents these days don't take the time to talk to their kids- also another reason for the spankings- it's quick, it's easy, it gets the parents anger out. I have been doing the time out, let's talk about this, what did you do wrong, why is that wrong to do, how do I feel about this (disappointed? yes), etc etc since my daughter was 5. We are extremely close, she KNOWS when she does something wrong, accepts the responsibility for her actions, understands restrictions and sticks to them no questions asked. She is now 13 and I have the occasional issue with her here and there, but I have NEVER had to let my anger out with my hand, fist, or other device. Good parenting takes time. Period.

It's different for everyone. Some kids you can give a look some kids run when they hear the clinging from a belt. And some kids need there *** beat to point they're scared to sit down.

First question is: how old are thay?
you should sit them down and explain to them what they did wrong and then have them explain to you what they should have done instead. if younger you can still explain to them what they did wrong but i would stick them in time out 1 minute per age so example my son is three i sit him on my stair case for 3 minutes if he doesnt stay i sit with him and talk to him for three minutes makeing him understand that what he did wasnt a good thing that he cant do it anymore after the three minutes he can go back to playing or doing what he was doing it really depends on the age if older you can take away things like playing outside, going on the computer, watching tv, playing video games, anything your child likes my friend took the tv away for a few days when her son lied to her about takeing something he shouldnt have good luck with this i hope it helps you out a little

What kind of bad? How bad? What did they do that was so bad? How old are they?
I received spankings with a belt when I was bad. I was also sent to my room and denied privileges. Never spank or punish in public -- it makes the child feel awfully embarrassed and does more harm than good.
But, you have to stick to your guns with whatever you decide to do. Do not threaten to punish all the time and never actually do it.

Spankings always got me in line. Now I am going to have to hear all these anti-spankers. Talking to kids doesnt work. That is why you see kids disrespecting their parents, and telling them no, etc. Kids are brats when you dont punish them. If telling them doesnt work, count to three, and tell them if they dont listen you are gonna tan their @$$. Just the fear of getting my hiney warmed made me act right.

Reevalute yourself, if you say your children are bad to their face they will be. You need to reinforce positively by saying something nice at least ten times for every time you said they were bad. And if you meant misbehave, use a timeout chair, send to their room, take something away, and only when all else fails do you swat their behind.

You have to instill discipline in children starting at a young age because as soon as they get older, they know their boundaries and they know whether or not they can take advantage of you. Show them who's boss. If it means spanking them, I see nothing wrong with that. My parents never had to spank me because I was scared it would hurt and I always listened before it got to that point.
