I was spanked weekly if not daily when I was a child for things like dropping a cup when I was doing the dishes.
I've been hit with a hand, a wooden spoon, a switch, and a leather belt to name a few.
The worst was when my sister and I took a piece of candy without asking first. We got hit on the bare butt with a leather belt that had metal rivets.
Most of the spankings were from my mother (single parent most of my life) but I was also whipped by my father and step-father as well.

I have been spanked more as an adult, by my wife. She uses belts, leather paddles, a plastic ping pong paddle, and a large 5 gallon paint stirrer.
When she deems punishment is necessary, she uses each implement, plus her hands. The amount of punishment varies, but it always leaves an impression. I remember the punishment vividly for a week, and feel it for several days.

I got spanked as a kid either with my parents hands or my dads belt. The only things I learned was that doing something wrong and getting caught meant pain and how be sneakier so I didn't get caught as often. I now have kids of my own and I have found that finding ways to teach them why the things they did were wrong is a much more affective way of preventing it from happening again.

On a regular basis until I left home at 15 - everything from an open hand to a tree branch, the wooden spoon was the most frequent object. One memorable day (after saying something that was probably despicable knowing me but that escapes me now some 25 years or so later) my mother attacked me about the head with a pool cue! I was invited to vacate the family home not long after that.
I am now on very good terms with both my parents, none of it had any lasting effect on me - and on reflection a lot of the punishment was definitely warranted.

I remember getting spanked in kindergarten for happy pats. I remember when I lied or broke something I got into trouble and my parents had a hand carved paddle that had a picture of a deer looking behind him and seeing a bear. It said the cute little deer with the "bare" ( bear) behind. I sure as heck got spanked when the paddle was lost..hehe

The only time I remember anyone hitting either my sister OR myself was the time she got a bike for Christmas, and ran over my dad's leg in the living room. He had just had knee surgery and was yelling "Don't hit my LEG!" before she did it ... it was kind of on purpose. Boy, did she get it.

Even then it was just a few smacks on her behind, with his hand. She was sent to her room and not allowed to open any more presents. They finally let her open them after she apologized a couple days later.
