You have to let go of the environment you are comfortable in, in order to explore something new. For example, a boyfriend. Say if he's treating you bad, and you want to break up with him, but he is what you are used to being around, so it seems normal. (the shore that you must lose sight of). You will never know that there is a better man out there for you unless you let him go. (Discovering new lands).

It's about taking risks. You need to leave the behaviors or habits you're familiar and comfortable with in order to experience and grow. Only when you decide to look outside yourself can you learn new things and, as a result, become a self-explorer.

to me it sounds like if you are always in the same place and you never go out, then you will never discover new things or ideas. Something to that effect. Sorry I couldn't word it better. I'm sure someone else will.

Simply put, it means that if you desire to stay close to "home"(can be used in many contexts), you will never discover what is out there beyond the horizon.
