I think it's great. I think it's about time we stopped eating foods that taste like cardboard and are bad for us too.

I live in Texas so this ban will affect me differently than it will someone who lives in New York however if this ban was to be placed in Texas I would appreciate it. There are several health related issues associated with the consumption of saturated fats and for those who are trying to make an effort to remove saturated fats from their diets banning it from restaurants will make this effort easier.
Those trying to avoid it can make the effort not to eat it in their every day diets but since most restaurants do not post the nutritional value of their menus it’s hard to avoid it when dining out.
I see this as a step in the right direction to better over all health and I hope the nation will follow New York’s lead on this. I know many restaurants will be impacted by this somewhat since sources of saturated fats are very cheap and store easily but I doubt that this should be that big of a change for them.
Many higher class or health conscience restaurants already use healthy sources of fats for cooking purposes.

I have mixed emotions. But here is my thoughts.
The government should not have to legislate diet. I think that is absurd.
But the reason I have mixed emotions is that they are only banning this in resturants. Resturants use this stuff and it is horrible for us and we have no idea it's being used. There are other ways to make food without the use of Saturated Fats.
So in the long run if you want to use it, you can use it at home. But what they are saying is that since most people have no control over how food in resturants is made and because this stuff is so bad for our health, then it should be prohibited to try to take some small step to protect the welfare fo the public. And again there are other ways to cook the same foods with no real change in taste. So it just prevents the resturants from taking the cheep way out of making the food.

it's "trans fat" not saturated fat (they're two different things.)
I'm for it.
1) I don't have a lot of respect for a restaurant that can't learn how to make their food without trans fats -- trans fats are very cheap, and unhealthy. Think of all the things that AREn't banned!
2) You know trans fats are bad if they made it a law. This law was made by a governing body, have faith in the system. If it was wrong, they would strike it down.

I am for and against it
For it because Saturated fats are very dangerous for the heart.
which a lot of people eat.and are unhealthy and over weight, especially young kids.
I am against it,
because we should be able to choose what we want to eat.
and not be told we cant eat it or in this case it is banned.
Plus I really feel that in time there will be other things banned
also, making our free country like a communist country.

Well Americans are fat and disgusting. So I am for it. Did you know a 45 yr old adult today has a longer life span then the average 10 yr old boy? Think about that. Maybe it is time we start putting things into our body that are so loaded with preservatives that they in effect embalm us.
It really has gotten out of control. NYC implemented this as means to curb SKYROCKETING health care cost. It is not like the govt. is saying we don't want the people eating what they want. People that eat what they want will revolt on us! Nope. They are saying that we have a system that cannot afford to keep the health care cost rising as they are.

I'm very against the ban as well. I say if people want to eat the food with the sat. fat in it, then let them. It's their choice...just like smoking and drinking is a choice people have to make.

110% stupid. Yes, many foods that are produced cheaply rely too much on trans fats, but so do some real gourmet dishes too. Maybe the work that being put into the fat police can be better used by opening free health clinics and low cost prescriptions to all new yorkers, so they can take charge of their own health decisions

AS far as I'm concerned people should learn how to eat properly and there's no need for a ban.
