EDIT: im in national guard, yea i did my oath at meps, my ship date for basic was sept 21, but there was a flight problem and my recruiter said i would not be sent, then he moved to another city far away , and i got a new recruiter, which doesnt really care about me, ive asked him for my uniform about a billion times and he always makes excuses..so im like the only one at drill without a uniform besides the new people coming in. and also im havent got payed a few drills , because there having pay issues etc. it so many things that have happened. that i just dont want a part of anymore. i will probably join again in the future. but right now my life is a mess. but yea i did my oath at meps and i havent gone to basic. if there is a paperwork to fill out to get out, anyone know the name of this paperwork? thankyou for your fast responses, i really appreciate it.

Need more info!
Are you at a training station waiting to be trained? Have you taken your oath? What the hell are you talking about?

No, you can not quit, when you raised your right hand to swear in, you swore to obey all orders of the President and all officers appointed above you. When you went to MEPS, you should have gotten your orders for when you ship to basic training with your enlistment papers, if you did not, then they dropped the ball down there and you need to see your recruiter to get this straightened out, because if you have your orders with your enlistment papers, and you did not report back to MEPS on the scheduled day, you are already marked as AWOL, and there is a warrant that has been issued for your arrest. If you do not have your orders, like I said, go see your recruiter, he should have them on file. Also, if you move to a different state, and your orders are issued after you have settled in, and you do not report, you will also be marked as AWOL, and a warrant will be issued for your immediate arrest.

You are in an odd situation. If you had gone into active duty, you would have no problem changing your mind. Since you went into the Guard you fall under different rules. When you raise your right hand for the Guard you are automatically accessed into that unit. This is why you are able to go to the weekend drills. If you back out you will not be considered AWOL, but you will be given an uncharacterized discharge. If you need to get your life back on track why don't you fill out a DD 368 and a DD 4187 to go into active duty.

You need to contact an Army Recruiting Office now. When I was in the Army, I commanded a 6 man Recruiting Station in Flint, Michigan. I have never heard of the problem you have happening to anyone in any branch of the service. Try the web-page below and get some answers. They may even owe you some sort of back-pay.

well my guess is that you are scheduled to go to basic and your awaiting your orders to be cut to dind out when you go. A year and a half is entirely too long to wait. You need to get in contact with a recruiter (any recruiter doesn't have to be the one that signed you up) let them know the situation and tell them what's going on and see what they say to you.
But to answer your question. Yes you can back out of going to basic training befor you leave even though you have signed up. You need to fill out a form to do that. Technically you are really not even in the military until you graduate from basic training.
I knew a girl in my high school that got cold feet the day before she was going to leave to go to basic training and she called her recruiter and told them she wasn't going. There are some things to fill out like paperwork and all that jaz but yes you can do that.

Are you in the Army or National Guard?
Since you are in the Guard, you need to go see a Reserve REcruiter. If your life is such a mess why dont you just go active to straighten out?

Maybe you are in the delayed entry program? Go to the recruiter's office (bring your contract) and have someone go over it with you....in the mean time you can go get a job while you wait.

Your recruiter has a chain of command. If you are not getting answers from him/her, climb up the chain.
