Boiled hamburger and rice. You can also throw some cooked veggies in too, just no onion! They are toxic to dogs.

There is no single best food, but you can find lots of foods that are better than what you're currently feeding. Look at the ingredient list for any food that you're interested in. You want a food that's corn-free and has high quality meat sources (no meat by-products). There are lots of great brands out there, though some are harder to find than others. Petsmart carries Blue Buffalo which is an excellent food. I'd also recommend Merrick, Wellness, Canidae, Solid Gold, Natural Balance, Innova, and Timberwolf. Those are generally found in independent pet stores. Diarrhea isn't uncommon among puppies but it can be serious. Dehydration is very dangerous. If he hasn't already been to the vet for his shots, you should do so as soon as possible, as diarrhea is a symptom of the parvo virus.

Puppies cost, like children do. If you have a child you will supply that child with food, shelter, medical care, clothing, school supplies, training even if you have to get assistance from the government to do it.
If you have a puppy and can't provide the basic needs for it like food that is appropriate for it, whether via donations from others or by purchasing it, then you might be doing the best for your puppy to find it a good home. This is no judgement against you as a person. I don't doubt you care about your puppy and I am hoping you care enough to make sure its needs are met.
If your question was more for suggestions of types of puppy food, there are many good quality foods out there today. I would avoid generic grocery store brands as they are largely fillers and junk food made up of garbage, sometimes literally, and rendered carcasses.
If your puppy is a large breed you can now buy foods formulated for puppies of that sort. Same for large breeds. Pet food companies are getting wise to the desire of owners to provide quality food for their companions.
If you decide to go the raw feeding route, here is a site which provides good info about how to balance that diet:

You should really just get some puppy food. If for some reason you are unable to right now, Boild rice and boiled hamburg or boiled chicken. Yes, that's right, boiled hamburg. This is only for a short time. Puppies have special dietary needs that can only be reached in puppy food. Not to mention that human food can cause gastro intestional upset and will probably lead to the puppy refusing regular dog/puppy food. Please get that puppy some puppy food!

There is a common saying that pets should not eat “people food.” The myth is that feeding pets people food will not only give them diarrhea, but it will also turn them into beggars at dinner time. Depending on what kind of pet food you feed them and where, loose stools and begging can be avoided. There are some simple guidelines to follow when it comes to sharing the fridge and pantry with your pooch.

One, when we say it’s ok to feed “people food”, we are not talking about potato chips, chocolate cake, soda-pop, and deep fried onion rings – foods that are sure to give your pets a tummy ache. We are talking about “real” human grade food that has not had the wholesomeness and nutrition processed right out if it. Fresh grains, fruits, vegetables, nuts, herbs and meat make for great homemade pet food.

Raw Meat works wonders!

I'm with Heather on that. I feed my cats a raw meat diet and it is harder to do with cats than dogs. Dogs can eat cooked food, cats can't.

I always thought if I had a dog I could share my beef stew with it. Quality meat, carrots, potatoes - all in yummy gravy the dog would love.

I am sure there are many Yahoo groups of people feeding their dogs a raw diet. Put in a search for canine barf and find a group and learn about how people do this, any problems, foods that might not be as good as others and the raves of how well their dogs do on this Biologically Appropriate Raw Food (BARF).

Dog food would be the best. I wouldn't feed them anything but dog food, but....if you only have adult dog food, you can put some warm water over a small amount of it, heat it in the microwave and let it sit for a while until it softens and cools off, then you can feed them that. You can buy a can of wet dog food for about 95 cents at PetsMart if you're tight on money right now.

How about going out and buying some? You should always have enough food on hand. Think of it as would you say the same if you had a baby and it had no formula/baby food? Don't think so, you'd go to the store.

Dry cereal in a pinch. Nothing with sugar. Rice and boiled hamburger is good. Just remember, always feed your dog in its own dish. No one likes a begging dog.
