By being open with their children about what they are doing, and explaining why they make certain choices instead of others. Children don't automatically figure out that parents are taking the high road, they have to know that there were other options available and the parents had a reason for the choice they made.
Walking the walk is always the most effective way to teach children.

They should just live life with good morals themselves. Children imitate their parents from the moment they are out of the womb. You cannot expect your kids to have good morals if you never were a moral person to begin with.

Also, parents should punish their kids when they disobey or act in an unfavorable manner. I see no problem with spanking. Personally, I think that parents are way too easy on their kids. A time out is not going to teach a 4 year old how to act. I was spanked as a kid, and I turned out pretty decent, in my opinion. No major emotional scars.

Actions speak in shouts, words are only whispers in comparison. The best way to teach children about morality is by example.

By setting an example, of course, and by talking to their children. The news is a good place to start. Things happen every day that children hear about and worry about. Ask them if anything on TV makes them confused or worried, then discuss it clearly with them. They know that bad things happen and should be able to express their thoughts. They need to know that sometimes good people do bad things, and sometimes bad people do worse things. And they need to know that there is nothing you will not discuss with them and nothing they can't tell you.
