Bound's hubby here:

With respect to guns, and only guns, Wal*Mart and similar chains do buy their merchandise in larger quantitities, which allow them to sell them for less. Gun manufacturers, for legal liability concerns, will not knowingly offer for sale an inferior quality firearm.

However, in speaking with a Browning representative, I was told that Winchester had made a special run of non-catalog rifles for Wal*Mart a few years back, so they do commission firearms to their criteria, which would be aimed at lowering the price of the product! (Note: Since Winchester closed its doors this past spring, Browning is providing customer and product support for the WInchester line, and is marketing the current abbreviated line of Winchester rifles and shotguns!)

Good luck!

Wal Mart gets the same guns everyone else gets. I was in Cabela's, a few months ago, and a guy was asking the salesman what the difference between the gun they had, and the one Wal Mart had, and he said it was just Wal Mart pricing. The gun at Cabela's was about a hundred dollars more than the one at Wal Mart. Also, I bought a brand new gun from Wal Mart for $160, and saw it, used, at Cabela's, for $199.

Big chain stores like Walmart, Sams, Target and the like get better buys on everything because they buy in bulk. Gun Prices and ammo prices can be lower because they buy in such large mass the manufacturer can afford to give them a deal.
I sell pork and milk to Safeway and Kroger. I make good money and give them a break on purchases because I know without a doubt they'll be here next month for more. It takes care of my family and is good business sense, it keeps my farm alive.

I have bought 2 of my guns @ Walmart, some friends of mine bought the same guns @ a pricey gun shop. I paid wayyyyyy less for my two, they are the exact same guns, you can only tell a difference in your wallet, Walmart sells so much stuff, they can afford to let things sell only a little above cost.

Yes they do , and here is proof , A buddy of mine bought a rifle from a chain store call" Fays" a few years back, they were a popular store with a very large sporting goods department ,anyway he buys this rifle ,picks it up ,with out opening the box at the store to check it out ,he gets home and the gun had not been blued at the factory, and no it was NOT stainless steel or nickle plated,so yeah ,chain stores get the lower quality arms

They tend to deal in the lower-end models, but those models are the same as those available elsewhere. The price difference comes from their buying power.

I don't know about guns but sometimes the same manufacturer of small appliances will make cheaper version for large chain stores. These versions may look the same as their more expensive brothers but they have different model numbers.
