I spent the summer in Europe and I hung out like everyday with a guy I met there. Anyway, we weren't together at all (just good friends and he sometimes put his arm around me which I just thought was...whatever). i know he was hinting at being together but I thought it would just fizzle out since we would be so long distance. I don't really like him and now I don't even like him as a friend cause he's always jealous and putting me down even though we're not together but he acts like we are (phonecalls, im). On my birthday, he wrote me this long letter about how much he liked me, which made me think that he thought we were together. I kinda said I couldn't respond to that cause I don't feel that way but I don't think he got it cause he kept calling me like 5 times a day and stuff...So I blocked him and don't answer his phonecalls so he hasn't tried talking to me in 2 weeks. Was this the right thing to do?

So he wrote you a long letter and you "kinda" said that you couldn't respond to that cause I don't feel that way.

You need to do something stronger than "kinda". Sit down and answer the letter. Tell him the truth. Something like,

"I enjoyed hanging out in Europe but I have always seen you as a good friend, nothing more. It never occurred to me that you were looking for something more serious. I'm sorry if I gave you the wrong impression and caused you any heartache.

Please understand that there is no chance of our friendship developing into love, and not just because we live so far apart. If you can't accept that, then perhaps it's better if we don't keep in touch in future."

When a person is in love, they hear what they want to hear in conversations - but it's much harder to ignore what's written down. Write the letter.

I think you should write him or call him and let him know that you need your space and you don't want a relationship right now. You like him, but you need time to sort out your feelings and want to just calm down w/ him now.

Sounds like he's too needy. You should get rid of him slowly so you don't hurt his feelings. Don't lie though. If you don't like him at all then just let him know that your feelings have changed and you would rather just be friends.

No. Give him a chance. If you go on a date with him and you don't have fun, tell him (european guys don't listen as well as us Yank fellas) and he should get the idea.
