Diphenhydramine, the active ingrediant in almost all over the counter sleep aids, is an antihistamine. Diphenhydramine blocks the effects of the naturally occurring chemical histamine in the body. Among it's many side effects are: difficulty concentrating, short-term memory loss, visual disturbances, hallucinations, confusion, and delirium - hence your hangover in the AM. Oh yeah, it'll cause erectile dysfunction in about 25% of men also.

Don't take the full dose. If the directions say to take 2 tabs just take on pm and one regular. I usually take one tylenol pm and then one 500mg tab of regular tylenol. 2 tylenol pm knocks me off my butt, I do ok if I do it they way I explained. If that doesn't help talk to your dr and see if they have something better.

If you are having problems sleeping, consult your doctor and get some prescription meds. They work much better.
