Shortening is like Crisco, It is not butter or margerine, you can buy it in a can or in bars. They have ones that are vegetable based and ones that have animal fat in them. It kinda looks like lard, it is white and creamy.

I'm not clear on what your question is, so I'll just ramble instead.
Shortening is neither butter or margarine. They are all types of fats, just processed differently with different ingredients. Some have more trans fat and saturated fat. Shortening would be most comparable to vegetable oil in a recipe. Shortening is sold under the name brand of Crisco, but they have store brands as well.

Shortening neither one of those, BUT you can buy the shortening that has butter in it now. I believe that is it Crisco that does that now. It will say it right on the can, But it is not butter, it is butter flavored shortening.

Shortening is an edible fat used for baking. I personally do not cook with it, I substitute margerine or butter in recipes instead

Shortening is grease like Crisco. It's made from vegetable oil. It's hydrogenated so it will be solid at room temperature. Just plain oil is supposed to be better for your arteries.

It's like vegetable oil with emulsifiers to keep it at a solid state at room temperature. It's not margarine and it's DEFINITELY not butter, tho.
