Yes you can still house train a dog that's a year old..Just train them like you would a puppy..like when they wake up in the morning take them strait outside and they will do there business and when the come back in give them a treat..and if they take a nap and wake up do the same thing..I would take the dog outside every hr or every 2hr's it's up to you..but just watch the dog and you will be able to tell when they wanna go..But make sure when they do go outside and use the bathroom that you give them a treat and tell them that they did a great job..I house trained my 6 week old puppy in 2 weeks..Hope it all work's out for ya.And if you play with the dog..as soon as you get done playing with the dog..take it strait outside..and when it get's done eating and drinking..take it outside..Hope this Information helps you out :) And make sure that you have your dog on a schedule for eating..like in the morning or whatever but keep them on that schedule

Absolutely.
Take the dog out and stay with him every 30 minutes. No matter if he/she only dribbles a little, praise the dog exhuberantly.
Figure out by watching the clock how long after the dog eats that he/she needs to go and make sure you always go out near or before that time as well.
Some people find it easier if they are home all day to feed the dog in the morning rather than at night because they will do their business before bedtime.
Never yell at the dog for making a mistake. Tell the dog no in a firm but normal tone voice, pick it up and take it outside and put it down while the dog is with you. You'd be surprised how fast the dog will figure it out.

I house trained a 5 year old Mastiff but couldn't train a 2 year old Staffy, personal experience tells me it depends on the breed or the individual dog and your patience in persistance.

People take retired greyhounds from race tracks and house train them, so I presume your 1-year-old can learn.
I'd follow standard house training. Treat them like a puppy. Crate them when you're not home. Take them outside immediately when you let them out, immediately after they eat or drink anything, immediately after any break during playtime. Crate them at night.
Praise them for going outside. Say "no" if they go in the house, but don't punish them -- they don't learn from punishment. Stick iwth positive reinforcement.
Your dog will figure it out. It'll take a few weeks.

Crate training is really the only way to go. It is going to require a lot of committment from you to the dog. Get into a routine.
Also, if the dog was abused before, it might always have pee accidents if anyone raises their voice. Good luck!

sure you can it will take more time then a puppy but its a myth when someone says you cant teach old dogs new tricks,,, I would suggest getting a crate big enough for the dog to stand up and turn around and be able to lay down,,, Keep the dog in there if you are unable to watch him or her,, before you leave take the dog out to go potty when you get home take the dog out,,, after he eats take him out and when you get ready to go to bed take him out then put him in the crate,,, when you get up from bed take the dog out to go,,, trust me crate training is so much easier to train a dog then to try to find out their bathroom scedule,,, and dogs actually really love there crate they feel secure in their crate,, but the only thing is you have to use alot of praise when potty training never scream at them or spank them for having an accadent,,, and never use the crate for punishment,,, I hope this helps and good luck with your dog and Happy Holidays
