Many years ago, I spanked my dog for killing a chicken..I admit it, I just lost it! There is never a good enough reason to harm your dog or cause pain as discipline.
That dog and I were so very close, and he so worshipped me..However, after I spanked him, that total trust was gone..Our relationship was never the same..Yes, he was still my friend, a great, noble dog, and we loved each other..but that very special bond was gone..forever..
I have always regretted that..and swore to never do it again..When you resort to hitting, it is YOU that has lost control..
I hope your little friend will learn to trust you again..

Dogs should never be spanked. they are not like humans and do not have the mental capacity to understand why they are being hit, and connect their punishment with their 'crime'. When you hit them, you only make them fearful and distrustful of you.
That said, theyy also live very much in the present and if you reform your actions, he'll soon forget all about it. Approach him calmly and assertively (as the dog whisperer would say) and don;t back down from him. He needs to know you are the leader. Chihuahuas are bossy little fellows and will take advatage of a human if they can. Don't allow him to growl at you. Pick up him, and hold him on your lap intil he comes down. You can use a slip lead as an aid if you think he will actual bite. Pop the leash on and give him a slight correction ever time he growls. It is imperative that you correct him IN THE MOMENT that he growls.
You need to rebuild his trust in you, but at the same time still be a calm assertive leader! It may take a little time, but it will happen if you work at it. Please don't spank him any more! You are only damaging his psyche and teaching him to fear you.

There is never any reason to hit or "spank" a dog. You should find ways to train him using positive reinforcement. I've worked in rescue for many years, and have seen what can happen to dogs that have been hit...it's not pretty. Don't force him to come to you. Let him learn to trust you again on his own time. He'll come around, as long as you refrain from hitting or yelling at him. Just give him some time. I've found that the smaller breeds can be pretty easily upset, especially if being harshly disciplined. I would also try using treats to try to regain his trust. I hope you've learned a valuable lesson from this and that you will deal with future issues without violence. It's great that you reached out for help with this issue though, so kudos for that.

NEVER EVER spank your dog even when they are being bad. Try this it might work: Since you spanked your dog try being friends with your dog again like play with him take him on walks feed him just give your dog love and maybe he will come back to you and not growl at you anymore.

Sorry but to spank any dog let alone such a small dog as a chihuahua is pretty stupid and uncalled for...
You did the deed and now you are the one who is now being ignored.... and are paying the price
I am sure it is going to take a lot of loving attention to win his trust and love back
Dogs give us all uncondional love and ask for nothing in return but to be fed and cared for and for us to return the love they give us

i don't think i need to tell you not to spank him again, so take this as a lesson. just wait for him to calm down. he will, he won't hold the resentment forever. give him a cookie (or something he likes) and then let him alone. the most you get upset, even if you aren't angry, just guilty and trying to comfort, the more he's gonna be nervous. trainign lessons in the future might be a good idea. not for him... but for you. :)

Your dog lost his trust in you. You are supposed to be his protector and pack leader. He should feel safe around you always. I suggest you stop with the spanking and look into "positive training" articles and Yahoo! "Nothing in Life is Free" to be a pack leader that requires no physical punishment.

I suggest you try treats. Especially cheese.
Your dog will forgive you. Try to forgive yourself.
Look at how you can best educate your dog in future using voice commands or hand gestures that do not include hitting.
Your dog will gain trust in you again. I sure of it.

1. You shouldn't spank your dog. 2. If you called him to you and then spanked him, he thinks that everytime you call him and he comes he's going to get hit. You need to start all over with the 'come' command and reward him everytime he comes to you. NEVER call your dog to you and then hit them, they are then getting punished for obeying your command. It can take a long time to repare that damage. Just keep rewarding him for coming to you.

You should try to coax your dog that your friendly. Give your dog some treats and play with it, I think over time he will forget about your incident and please try not to hit your dog anymore. You can try squriting water on his face from a spray bottle, I herd dogs dont like that after a while.
