Sounds like depression to me....
Most likely dysthymic disorder.....since it has continued for so long.

Dysthymic Disorder is characterized by chronic depression, but with less severity than a major depression. The essential symptom for dysthymic disorder is an almost daily depressed mood for at least two years, but without the necessary criteria for a major depression.

Hello:
I do not see anything that would put you in the Bipolar I or II category. No hallucinations, delusions, so there is no psychosis.
If you have had these symptoms for eight years, then the likely diagnosis is Major Depressive Disorder, Recurrent episodes, chronic or it could be Dysthymia if there are no periods of feeling "normal" in between bouts of depression.
No evidence of anxiety or panic disorders.
No evidence of any kind of personality disorder based on the information you have presented.
What worries me is your rumination on death, suicide and homicide. These are the symptoms that will land you in the hospital for inpatient treatment. If you are clearly suicidal and have made any type of plans I would be evaluated immediately on an emergency basis and possible admission to the hospital.
I hope this helped answer your questions.
I am a Family and Preventive Medicine physician, however, I have added qualifications in treating mood disorders.
About 50 percent of my total patient base suffer from either Major Depressive Disorder, Anxiety and Panic disorders and Dysthymia. I do not treat Bipolar I or II nor do I treat psychotic disorders like schizophrenia.
Seriously! If you are suicidal get help immediatley!!!!! PLEASE!!!
Sincerely,
Warren Shaffer, M.D.

This sounds like a classic case of clinical depression to me. Talk to a doctor about starting an anti depressant, then have it monitored by a psychiatrist to make sure it is the right one for you. You will be amazed at how your life will change once you start treating the depression!

Definately it's depression. They have several different medications that can help. See a doctor and get help. Just because one medicine doesn't work for you doesn't mean that another can't. Keep trying until you get the right meds and the right dosage. Never give up.
