Why don't Christians understand the principles this country was founded on? Freedom... of speech, religion, etc. If they don't like our laws, they should leave! For example: a)The Target boycott for deciding last year to refer to Christmas as "The Holidays" and not using the word "Christmas" Well, there are people of many different religions in this country. Why don't Christian's understand this? b)Christians' hate for gays and policy against gay marriage. When there are studies showing that homosexuality is possibily genetic, why would Christians be against somebody because of something that they cannot control? That would be like being against black people... oh yeah... Some Christians do that too. c)Christians believe that the laws of this nation should be based on their beliefs. Someone please tell me why Christians don't understand the Constitution and notion of freedom!

Many people don't understand the principles this country was founded on.

1. Boycotts are one way people choose to exercise their freedom of speech.
Their message was "Yes, You have a right to say 'Happy Holidays' instead of 'Merry Christmas' but are you aware of how many customers you are alienating buy making that choice?"

Freedom of speech goes both ways. You say what you want & I can object or even protest.

2. Homosexuality. I never heard any hatred of homosexuals from my very conservativ;y religious family growing up. Believing someone is sinning is very different from hating them. (There are a lot of athiest who are bigots, too.)

3. You have a better point on this one. Many Christians feel if something is wrong, it should also be illegal. Actually, some liberals feel the same way. They just have a different set of "wrongs" they would illegalize.

Be careful about the overgeneralization.

I think you answered your own questions. They do understand the Constitution and are exercising their freedoms of speach and religion. Are you saying no one should speak up if they don't like something? Or is it only okay if it is against something you agree should be spoken out against? You definitely don't understand the Constitution there.

Second, you state they hate gays, which is most likely not true, even if they disagree with the behavior. Then, you say homosexuality is "possibly" genetic...exactly. There is no hard evidence that it is. There are some theories, but they swing both ways. I know people that have entered that lifestyle out of choice and others because they feel they have no choice, or were born that way. Either way, we have choice. Are you saying that man should submit to all their urges? Even if they are harmful to society? (Not saying homosexuality is, it's just for the point). Are you saying gay people are unable to control themselves? Also, being gay and black is nothing alike, so don't even go there.

Lastly, the Constitution is about Liberty and Expression and the organization of government, etc. I think most intelligent Christians would agree government and religion should not mix, and most certainly the nation shouldn't be based on their beliefs, at least strictly speaking. No one can deny this country was founded and based on Judeo Christian principles, it is just part of the history. I don't see why people would have a problem with that. Our country is a Democratic Republic and we elect those who we want to lead us and vote our values. If you are upset that a majority of this country beleives marriage should be between a man and a women, or whatever, then vote...or go somewhere you would feel more at home.

So, you are horribly misguided, Christians celebrate freedom as much as the next guy or gal and hate to see our country falling apart and judges interpreting the Constitution in their own liberal way in complete defiance to the law.

Have a Merry Christmas.

Gee......you beliefs are slightley screwed up from the truth...

Our people came here to escape religious oppression and founded this country as a Christian Nation and wanted everyone to have freedom OF religion......not freedom FROM religion
I think Target has come around and is now doing some ads with "Merry Christmas". Home Depot and Best buys are not.
If the "Happy Holiday" was done innocently, it would be ok. However they announced that no one was even allowed to say Merry Christmas because it might offend people who aren;'t Christian.............gimme a break@!.....it is Jesus' birthday!...That's the only reason we have the Holiday...........So get over yourself...You're wrong about this one.
We don't hate gay people......we can't condone their livestyle becuase God says it is an abomination...BTW...it has been shown in MANY studues that gays are NOT born that way,,,,they become that way due to enviroment ( who they surround themselves with, lifestyles, etc)...We believe the Bible......you don't have to beileve if you don't want too.....but it isn't going to change God's Word if you don't.........

one more thing....Our laws ARE based on the Ten Commandments.....Like it or not.......

The Constitution protects these things

Did you know that there is not one statement in the Constitution about separation of church and state??

You have a Merry CHRISTmas, my friend

Boy, I thought I made this clear after I answered you last question. Well you are wrong about a couple of things here though.. The target boycott had nothing to do with the Constitution.. You can spend or not spend anywhere you wish, Forces others to do so would be wrong. You made it sound like they should be forced to think like you do.. Violating the idea of freedom or religion if you ask me... Homosexuality is condemned in the Bible both New and Old Testament. Again you sound like you are telling them how they should react to a deviant life style. Violating their rights again (Are you sure you know what the Constitution says?) The Laws of this country are BASED on English common law.. English common law is BASED on the Law given to Moses on the stone tablets.. A=B B=C A=C Right? Still it isn't right to force people to believe that so as long as you obey the Law of the land I will have no trouble excepting you as a fellow American and willing to support what you have to say even when you are wrong... Just a few points of rebuttal:

1. The founding fathers / framers of the constitution were Christians and adamantly encouraged people to be RELIGIOUS and in fact correctly believe that a republic with morals based on belief would fall apart. So yes, this nation IS based on our beliefs and to deny that is to deny historical fact.

2. There are people of all groups that hate people, but Christianity does not teach this. It does teach that homosexuality is wrong. Furthermore saying that "there are studies that show that homosexuality is POSSIBLY genetic" means absoloutely nothing.

3. Finally, Christians ABSOLOUTELY belive in freedom of speech, religion, etc... Again, these things came from OUR belief ssystem. Speaking out against target IS practicing free speech boycotting is also a form of free speech. Just because you CAN say anything you want doesn't mean that there are no consequences, doesn't mean that it won't offend, and certainly doesn't mean that somehow once you've said something noone else has the right to say anything against you.

a) If they dont like "our" laws? So its not mine but yours? Are those different people out buying presents for "Christmas"? What is the reason we have a "holiday" season? Could it be Christmas?
Did you know when it was Ramadan recently? Did we call it a "holiday season" they called it Ramadan. Wonder what a muslim would do if you tried to change it?
b) It could "possibly" be genetic and 500 years ago the world could possibly be flat. Prove it then you have an arguement.
c)Well i do know this country was based on democracy and majority rules. That is not to say that we should restrict minorities and have laws such as the Jim Crow laws, that is not Christian. Do you really know what a Christian believes by having read the Bible for yourself or do you take what media, family, friends say?

Holier than thou Evangelical Christians are scary. They cannot accept that there are beliefs other than theirs.

When Bush was pushing for their bid to change our Constitution and our laws, to fit their beliefs-I felt it very wrong of a president to do this. Then, anyone who says Jesus talks to him and tells him what to do----what else can you expect?

He is the movement's poster child, and he soon will be gone-as alot of his cronies already are, as of the last election. Thank goodness!

This country was founded by Deists, not Christians. They did not want any one religion to have power over others. These include Thomas Jefferson, the two John Adams, Ben Franklin, James Madison, and many more.

These people will never understand-they are too brainwashed and too anti G-d (tho they would never admit it).

So you are saying that Christians should not be free to voice our opinions?

And you claim to support the constitution and freedom???

"Our" laws are a reflection on our collective morality, the majority ultimately decides. How can we be claim to be a free country and ignore half of the people in it?

Sounds like you want a dictatorship to me, that has never worked out for the benefit of individuals.

You are free to dis-agree with my views and I am free to dis-agree with yours, but if you think all Christians should leave this country, you are wrong.

Our Ancestors died to make this country as much as yours did!

PS. I would also be against a Religious Theocracy......

Rick I am sure you are trying to look as if you are a very intelligent man- however, you are failing. You have managed to include all Christians in your statement and I am sure I am not the only Christian who understands the constitution, does not hate gays, and I do understand that the United State's population is made up of many different races, religions and beliefs. You are entitled to your opinion and I am sorry that you have had some bad experiences with some Christians but I would suggest that you stop making blanket accusations- it makes you look ridiculous!

I wish I knew. They seem to think that Freedom of Religion means freedom to belong to any christian denomination. They also think the bible trumps the constitution in the US.

They certainly work very hard to prevent gays from getting equal rights, while they already enjoy special rights (freedom from discrimination, exempt from taxes for their churches, etc.).

The word that comes to mind most often is HYPOCRITE.

I see some idiot has claimed the US was founded as a christian nation. That is a blatent lie. The founding fathers had every opportunity to make the US a christian nation and specifically decided not to do so.

Someone needs to read about the Treaty of Tripoli.
