Our grill needs parts and we don't have a foreman (yet). What's the best way to make the steak? My guess is I have 2 options. Either make it in a pan or put it in the oven. Any suggestions on which is better and why? Which will taste closest to a steak made on the grill? I don't need recipes, just the cooking method. Thanks

Do it in the broiler section under your oven because that is almost the same as grilling but the flame is overhead instead.

Coat both sides of the steak with oil salt and pepper. Preheat a saute or frying pan on high heat. When hot sear each side for 2 minutes per side turn heat down to medium/low then cook steak for 4 minutes each side. This will give you a medium rare steak. Alternatively, you can sear the steak on high heat for 2 minutes per side then place in 350F oven for 10 to 15 minutes depending on the doneness you prefer. If you don't have an instant thermometer simple use you finger to push down on the middle of the steak it should give you some resistance back when pressed the more the resistance the more well done it is cooked.

Definitely in a frying pan. Cooking steak in the oven means it tends to be overdone very quickly. I usually fry steak anyway as it keeps the meat moist. Just make sure you let it rest for long enough.

The frying pan method would be the closest to the grill.

I marinade it in Italian dressing and then cover it with grill-mate steak seasoning(roasted garlic) and broil it for 3minutes per inch of thickness. Then of course you have to make roasted garlic mashed potatoes and maybe some sauteed mushrooms and onions on the side or on top of the steak.maybe some Bearnaise sauce. Good luck, bon appetite'

Just cook it on a really high heat in a pan and then let it rest. It will taste fab, but please don't dry it out by putting it in the oven. Merry Christmas!

I've been told it's best if you first pan sear the fillet to lock in the juices. Then wrap it in bacon and broil it in the oven. Good luck
