Meh, difficult one this. The fact of the matter is it has to have gotten in from somewhere. If you went through some huge deep puddles (and stayed in them for a while) it could have put some more pressure on a seal or suchlike and forced it's way through an otherwise reasonable seal. The likelyhood though is that the car has a defect. The usual places I've found for such problems are as follows (in no particular order).

* The seal around the passenger door
* The seal plugs in the bulkead (thick metal section seperating engine and passenger compartment) - check all the rubber bungs passing wires through the bulkhead are in properly and unbroken. If it is this, the bulkhead will be wet behind the dash (next to the bust bung)
* The seal on the windscreen (sounds unlikely but it does happen) in which case the bulkead will also be wet
* The sunroof (easy to spot as it drips past you)
* The passenger window (also easy to spot as it runs down the passenger door and out the bottom)
* A hole in the floor (a little flintstones but it does happen) - pull up the carpet to check. There are also bulkhead type bungs in the floor of some cars.
* An occasional problem (if you have Air Conditioning) is the condenser unit either being damaged or blocked. If you can't find a leak or it does seem to have leaked out of a likely looking container behind the dash (next to the bulkhead), it's that and a reputable garage should be able to help.

In any case, a standard petrol station jetwash will help you (only in desperation). Aim roughly at likely spots and spray with a victim, er, I mean helper in the passenger side with the carpet pullled up. It'll be simple to spot where it comes from.

Good luck

The pollen filter out is interior the air intake device for the blower interior the cab. Stops pollen entering the air device and affecting every physique with hay fever. verify in case you have any wiring entering the cab on the passenger section besides. each so often if the wiring loom enters the cab via a grommet, the rubber seal forming the grommet must be corroded and for that reason ought to describe why you have become water interior the cab. I even have this subject yet on a S reg Escort. each and each time it rains i'm getting a leak and that's been affecting my fuse container, below the guidance wheel. Took a breakdown guy to tell me the place my leak replaced into. seems that an massive team of cables enter the cab precise below the windscreen, in basic terms below the suspension strut. The strut nicely enables water to bypass interior and out via drain holes on the backside of the nicely. besides the shown fact that, because of fact the grommet on my automobile is corroded that's P'ing down the cables and into the electrics. SO, verify for that (maximum inexpensive selection first!!) and see if that's the reason. whether it relatively is hit upon a fashion of the two changing the grommet or waterproofing the hollow the place the wires enter the cab. If that's no longer the wires placed it right into a storage to remedy.

My last Focus had exactly the same problem - but it only occurred when the car was parked on my drive, when the rain came from one particular direction.

I took it back to my Ford dealer, and they diagnosed a mis-aligned internal vent to the pollen filter. They changed some of the hoses behind the dashboard, and it was cured.

This was apparently a design flaw which has been rectified with the latest models.

could be condensation from AC unit if it is on. Fords are very weak in the heater core, I've had 2 Taurus's one Escort, all three had problems in the heater core (leaks). Bad part is on those models the entire dash had to be pulled to gain access, not sure about the Focus. Good luck, try some "copper seal".

could be through the bulkhead. there are grommets in there for putting wires through on some cars. see if you have them and check the rubber stoppers are in. could also be the door seal isnt in position correctly so water is getting in there.

my dads range rover had water in the footwell but that was caused by condensation from the air con dripping down so check that too if that applies to your car.

a common problem with most fords, your car is fitted with a pollen filter they are usually replaced every year when your car has a service, if they perish before hand and it rains or u drive through puddles water comes in from where the pollen filter was and ends up in the passenger footwell.

hope this helps

Your air conditioner has a condensation catcher most likely, and it's either cracked or full. If it is it will drain onto the floor on the passenger side. Just go get it cleaned out or replaced.

something is loose on the bottom or has been scraped open...take it to a body shop so they can put it up on a lift and check it. It should be easily fixed but as soon as possible as you do not want your rug to mold. Once fixed, use a blow dryer (get from GF or wife) and make sure its dried completely, otherwise you will have a musty smell that will never go away. SUMMER
