Yes, we have "In God we Trust" on all our money... right next to the Eye of Ra... so which God are we talking about here? The original pledge didn't have God in it at all... that was added later and was more of a compaign against Communism than a religious statement in the sense you offering.
No, Muslim nations don't allow it. Some claim they do, but if you look a little closer, the people of other faiths don't mingle with the Muslims the same way people of other faiths come together in the USA.

Many nations have Islam as a legally inforce religion. Also, there is a difference between claiming to be Christian and actually believing that Christ is the eternally begotten son of the Father, and that He allowed Himself to bare the penalty of you sin. This being the case, I would say that the USA isn't a closet Christian nation, but a nation that is NOT Christian but doesn't want to admit it, so they keep the little slogans and images all over the place so they can placate their consiences.
Sidenote: Christian doesn't equal Rightwing.
Im a huge advocate of th speration of Chruch and State, because I refuse to live in a man-governed theocracy.

...and the Christian Rightwing that resides in the American Bible Belt is likely who won the last two elections for your current president as well.
...well, them and his brother in Florida, but I digress.
Yes, the US has become a very openly Christian country as of late. Not certain that that's a good thing...much like the strict Muslim nations giving too much power to religion as well.

I wouldn't call it in the closet, it's pretty obvious. That would be like calling Clay Aiken in the closet. Besides part of the reason the U.S. is at war, is because God is on Bush's Buddy list.

I would say that in the first part it is free, and in the second part, the vast majority of the government, law enforcement, and so forth, would not deny that they are, in fact, Christians.
So, no.
