I'm getting a new dog. I already have male dog who is a dachsund. He is 3 years old. The new dog I'm getting is only a puppy and is a female. I'm scared I shouldn't get this puppy becuz the last puppy we got started having seizures because she needed her brother..she was cross breeded to us. I'm also scared because he is a jealous dog. I'm scared he would attack her. Should I get her or not? And how can I stop him from being jealous?

I can tell you from experience, Dachshunds are very jealous dogs. Especailly the male ones. I have a male dachshund and got another puppy. I had to soon get rid of the pup because Simon, the doxie was mean to it. He would even growl at us for feeding and petting the pup. Males are dominant, so if you do try to get a puppy get a female one. Good luck.

I would recommend letting the dogs meet before you make your final decision. See how they interact with each other, if they do not get along then don't bring the puppy home. It's mean to let a pup get settled into a nice home and then boot it out because your current beloved pet can't adjust. It's better to let someone else offer the pup a home. I know it's hard because they are soo cute, but think how you would feel. You get taken into a good home only to be booted out because the other kids won't accept you. Not a good feeling.

First seizures are not caused by a dog missing another. Seizures are a medical problem from within the brain. Your older dog will adjust to the new puppy. As long as you pay more attention to the older dog. My main concern here is, is the older dog fixed? Will they both be fixed?

You don't sound experienced enough to have another dog. Havng two dogs is a huge responsibility and is going to take up twice as much of your time, especially if you are not sure your first dog is entirely stabile. Before you commit to a second pup, I would suggest you start doing more research about dog ownership in general. Also, work with your dog that you have now; take him to obedience lessons, get him socialized with other animals. When you are 100% sure your current dog is well trained, happy, and stabile, and when you yourself have mor eknowledge about dog ownership, then by all means open your heart and home to another furry bundle of joy.

I would say yes you should if really like her. After all you can keep them seperated so they wont fight. Another thing is that if the new dog spends time with the old dog they will get to know each other. I hope I helped.
